Buying the Berkey Water Purification System

If you've heard nothing but good things about the Berkey water purification system, you're not alone. This system is renowned for its ability to keep water in the filtration system for longer than other comparable set-ups. It has micro-porous filtration that ensures that all invasive elements are removed from the water, too, and it comes in a variety of implementations that can help in an array of different potential applications. But where on earth do you buy one?

What is Directive 21?

It may seem odd, but Directive 21 is the website where you can purchase the Berkey water purification system. Online at http://www.directive21.com, Directive 21 is named from a computer game the Berkey founders used to play and the age the founders were when they started up the company. What began as a young dream has become one of the most remarkable success stories in the world of water filtration.

    Jeff,
I bought a Berkey Water Filter system (next to the largest one) from you and love it. This is the 3rd year I have used it, and only wish I had gotten it sooner. I wish I could clean the filters better. I am going to find WHITE scrub pads to use rather than the green ones I purchased and finally used. I need to see what gunk is coming off.

I don’t know if you have any experience with Mormon Missionaries going to third world countries, but here goes. Our grandson is headed for Quezon City in the Philippines in October for two years. I have heard that the water there is horrible and can cause all kinds of intestinal problems. I wondered if I should offer to send the Sport Berkey Bottle with him. Can that filter be cleaned like the big systems or does it have to be replaced? I would have no idea as to how long a new bottle would last him. I just wanted your opinion and suggestions. Hoping to hear from you soon.

Thanks for your positive comments about Berkey Systems, you can send a Sport Berkey with him, but we also recommend sending a couple of extra filters. The elements can be cleaned using a few drops of chlorine and backflushing the bottle, which can be done by squeezing the bottle. He should also monthly use soap and water to clean the bottle.

My wife and I travel in our RV and spend the winters in Yuma, AZ. The water there is absolutely terrible, do you have experience with your systems there and if so how can we expect to have clean water before cleaning or replacing the filters?

We have customers in Yuma, AZ and have not heard of any problems with the Berkey Systems purifying the water there. We do recommend priming and cleaning the elements every 3-6 months.

Will the Berkey filter remove hydrogen sulfide from well water?

Great question, currently that type of acid has not been tested, and so no claims of removal can be made.
