Lightning takes out Plumbing?

Share

An interesting event has caused a boil water alert in Milltown, Indiana. Apparently, a lightning strike damaged main water supply pipes and has resulted in a mandatory boil water alert for residents of the area. The lightning strike eventually traveled to the plumbing after initially making contact with metal fencing. Boiling water aids in killing microbes, which are the main concern when structural integrity is compromised.

Although boiling water aids in reducing pathogenic microbes, it could also lead to a greater concentration of solids or particulates and sediment which do not evaporate with the heated water.
