How the Berkey Light Operates

Berkey Light water purifiers are the most practical, user friendly and economical water purification systems available. To use, water is poured into the upper chamber. Gravity draws the water through the exclusive Black Berkey® purification elements. Contaminates are captured on and within the micro-porous purification elements and are separated from the water. The purified water then collects in the lower chamber where it can be drawn through the spigot. While in use, the system is joined together allowing the Berkey Light to be transported while it purifies water. This feature is useful when purified water is required in one location, such as in a food preparation area, and later in another location such as a dining area. There is no guesswork when refilling the system because the water level, in both chambers, is visible at all times. The elevated base raises the spigot level, allowing the Berkey Light to be utilized anywhere on a flat surface The shatter resistant Berkey Light is made of high impact strength Non BPA Copolyester. The Berkey Light does not leach foul tasting plasticizers into your water and will not retain foul tastes and odors from waterborne contaminants. The Berkey Light is so powerful it can be used to purify non-potable or unhealthy water in situations where electricity and water pressure are not available. For normal everyday situations or for hostile filtration environments, the Berkey Light water filter is the most flexible and adaptable available. I have had my Berkey Light for over 2 yrs and I LOVE IT! My friends come over knowing they’ll have clean tasting & a fresh glass of water. I use the purified water whenever a recipe calls for water and for cooking as well. It tastes so good.

I take my Sports Berkey to work so I will have clean water there to.

  The Black Berkey filters are not designed to handle salt water, only fresh water.
  
  Black Berkey Elements are sold in pairs & one pair of Black Berkeys is rated to produce up to 6,000 gallons of water. The PF2 Fluoride & Arsenic Filters are designed to be used with the Black Berkeys. The PF2s are also sold in pairs and are rated to produce 1,000 gallons of water.
  
  The Black Berkeys come with instructions that cover cleaning & maintenance of the filters. It’s basically as simple as using a brush/slightly abrasive scrub pad & clean water. You essentially brush the Black Berkey to remove the outer layer of carbon & then rinse it with clean & cool water. There’s no need to use any kind of detergent, chemicals, or hot water. Doing so will likely ruin the filter.

Can you please explain the difference between the black filters and white ceramic? Which ones filter out more contaminants?

The travel filter uses the black filter correct? and the water bottle?

Does the light filter use electricity?

  Thanks for asking. The Black Berkey Elements remove more contaminants from the water as well as produce many more gallons of purified water than the white ceramic filters. Both filters can be scrubbed to lengthen their lives but the Black Berkeys can be primed (backflushed) as well.
  
  The Travel Berkey comes with the Black Berkey Elements but its dimensions also fit the white ceramic filters. The Berkey Light system needs batteries or a power source only if you are using the LED (light emitting diode) base along with it. The LED base does nothing to treat the water; it simply provides ambient light.
