Homemade Cough Remedy

by Winnie

Cough RemedyThe seasons are changing. As the weather gets colder my thoughts are towards s preparing for winter. One of the things that I worry about is how not to catch the virus of the week. Although I am really careful about washing my hands, not touching door knobs in public restrooms and taking care to sneeze or cough in the crook of my arm. I usually manage to get some kind of illness during the winter. Last winter, I caught something particularly nasty that made my throat hurt so much that my ears ached whenever I swallowed and I lost my voice for two weeks. It was during this particularly nasty illness that I came upon this homemade cough remedy. Let me tell you, it works! What is in it, you ask? Cayenne pepper, apple cider vinegar, honey and ginger. I know what you're thinking; it sounds like it would be nasty and maybe I would rather suffer with my throat of fire and congestion thank you. But really, it's tasty stuff and it is much more pleasant than the syrup you can get at the drugstore. Now THAT stuff is nasty! Mix some of this up and store it in your cupboard today. You'll find that the relief is immediate after taking a spoonful. My daughter even suggested that it might make a good sauce for chicken. Do you have any home remedies that help relieve cold symptoms? Please share!

I have been drinking something similar for years, just without the ginger. Which I will now add.
The recipe I started with also called for salt, but I stopped using it. Start taking it when you feel that initial tickle in your throat, and keep taking sips throughout the day. Kicks it out!
Do it because it works, whatever the taste.
